Great Deal on Cute Letterpress Stationary

I love the darling designs from stationary and design company Linda & Harriett.  I especially love letterpress cards and I always end up picking out their cards out at my local stationary shop.  As I was clearly in a festive mood last week, I had my eye on these summery notepads:

I managed to hold myself back. But, then today I noticed a sale email from Linda & Harriett in my inbox, so I had to check it out.  They've re-launched their "Outlet"  which offers some great deals on beautiful letterpress designs.   I've paid full price for some of these cards (up to $4.50 a piece!) so I can tell you that $6 for 5 is a great deal!  If you like to keep extra cards around just in case (A habit I learned from my mother)  Check some of these out...

Thank You Mermaid Cards ($6 for 5)

Green Alligator Cards ($7 for 10)

Congrats Confetti Card ($1.50)

Thank You Hearts ($1.50)

Pink Flamingos ($5 for 6)

There's nothing better than getting a handwritten note in the mail...

Bridget Bardot in Black & White

While  I don't think I could ever get my hair nearly as high as Ms.  Bardot's famous hair,  it's still fun to imagine.  While bikini shopping online this past weekend,  I found myself browsing old pictures of her on Pinterest.  As one of the women who helped make the two-piece popular, there are some awesome photos of her in glamorous summer outfits.  It's amazing how current she looks - with her bleach blond hair and thick eye-liner, it's hard to imagine that these photos are over a half of a century old.

The image above came from  a hair tutorial... maybe I'll have to give it a try...

Collecting: Animal Jewels

I mentioned on Monday that I did a bit of antiquing over the weekend, and I wanted to share one of my favorite purchases.   After picking up this awesome/giant brass elephant necklace, I realized that I have begun to amass a collection of animal inspired jewelry.

My animal themed jewelry collection, from left-to-right above:

  • My newest addition: a giant gold elephant necklace.   I want to attach it to a longer chain, but I'm loving it already!
  • Koi charm - a charm a stole from my mom's jewelry box and put on my own chain
  • Little beaded elephant necklace from Forever 21
  • Rabbit & Hare two-finger ring from Forever 21
  • Vintage owl necklace

Baking: Magic in the Middle Cookies

Yeah,  I know this is "Style-Edition" - but it's not just about fashion.   It's about injecting a little style into your life.  And in my life,  style and baking often have equal importance.

I had bookmarked these cookies a while back, because the chocolate and peanut butter combo is pretty unbeatable, and I loved the idea of surprise in the middle of an otherwise standard cookie.

They weren't quite as chocolatey as I expected, (I might try and adjust the recipe a bit next time that I try them) but we (and friends) still finished the batch in over the weekend.

Here is the recipe:

Magic in the Middle Cookies

Cookies:
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup peanut butter
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract

Peanut Butter Filling:
2/3 cup peanut butter
2/3 cup powdered sugar

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Beat together the sugar, butter, and peanut butter until fluffy.  Stir in the egg and vanilla.  Slowly blend in the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until smooth.

In a small bowl mix together the powdered sugar and peanut butter until completely combined.

Roll the peanut butter mixture into small round balls about the size of a grape.  Scoop about a tablespoon of the chocolate batter  (I used my handy mini ice-cream scoop) and flatten it out in your hand.  Place the peanut butter ball in the middle of the chocolate, roll the chocolate around the peanut butter, and press the edges together to cover the peanut butter center.

Roll the cookie in your hands into a smooth ball.  (I was worried that some edges might have thicker chocolate than others but since you flatten them,  it all seemed to even out nicely - see the picture below)

Roll the cookie balls in sugar and place on the cookie sheet.  Use the bottom of a glass to flatten the cookies a bit.  (This step made them into perfectly even and circular cookies which made me pretty happy.)

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until they begin to crack on top.

Enjoy!

Blake Lively - Serious Glamour

I adore Blake Lively. She is somehow stunning while also feeling like a real girl.  There was a lot of back-lash online when Karl Lagerfeld announced she would be an ambassador for Chanel, but I think it was perfect.     For those of you who didn't agree, have you seen her most recent Glamour spread?  She looks amazing and is oozing some serious old-school glamour.

All photos from Glamour magazine Facebook page.

PS - While I think the pictures above are amazing,  her cover shot was not. Ugh, I hate when they photoshop so much that people's faces look weird and distorted.
