Inspiration: Striped Rugs

I'm in the need of a new living room rug, and on the heels of my my nautical obsession I've got stripes on the brain.   Right now we have a totally neutral rug, but I'm thinking I might want to change it up with some bold stripes.

I love how the blue color in this striped rug brings the whole room to life!

Here is an example of how a graphic stripe can take a whole room from white and simple to show-stopping.

Nautical perfection (obviously I love this!)

I won't ever get over how awesome this bedroom from Domino is.  Kinda makes you want a room with 2 twin beds, right? (maybe one day when I have a guest room?)

This room is a lot more eclectic -- I love how the black and white stripe rug makes it feel a bit modern.

Get the Look for Less: Colorblock Spring Dress

"Colorblocking" is still a huge trend this season, and it's an easy way to brighten up your wardrobe with some bold spring colors. I was especially inspired by this striped dress, one of my favorite from Heidi Merrick's spring 2012 line. But,  if $440 is too pricey for you,  I've found a couple of cute alternatives that will give you the same look for less.

Check out Madewell's darling silk sleeveless colorblock shift dress, on sale for $120.

I love the kelly green in this Matty M. version  ($128 at Lord & Taylor)

If you're a pink person, Asos has a simple option for just $64.

Here's another short sleeve version that  has a bit of a nautical feel. ($158 at Nordstrom)

These dresses would all be great spring investments, you can easily wear them for a casual afternoon out with flat sandals and maybe a hat (like in the Heidi Merrick photo) or, throw on some high-heeled sandals and sparkly jewels for a more formal spring event.

Happy shopping!

Jason Wu for Target February 5 (Mark your calendar)

Missoni was a huge deal for target last year, but not one that I was personally excited about.  Jason Wu, however, is a dream come true.  Jason Wu is one of my favorite designers (check out his spring 2012 collection  -- almost every look is to die for!)  And, all of the snippets I've seen from his target line look awesome.   Lots of colorful stripes and nautical inspiration (two of my favorite things)  According to this NY Times Magazine article the line is supposed to be available on February 5th -- so mark your calendar!

In addition to the dress above, this yellow, pink and black dress (an ad in Lucky magazine this month)  is also on my list!
