Style-Edition 2012 Oscar Fasion Review

I wasn't extremely wowed or inspired by the Oscars fashion last night, but I do have a few favorites...

Michelle Williams, in Louis Vuitton.  This dress is one of my favorite colors, so it was quickly on the top of my list, but I also think it worked perfectly with her simple pixie hair. Plus, I think the pink clutch and little bow broach were the perfect touches to make her look feel unique.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Tom Ford.  This sleek white dress and cape was perfection; a perfect modern interpretation of an old-Hollywood silhouette.

Emma Stone, in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture.  Although it's not as perfect as my favorite Emma Stone look (Calvin Klein at the 2011 Golden Globes), I think this is a darling dress -perfectly simple without trying to be overtly sexy or glamorous.

Rooney Mara, white lace Givenchy.  If anyone else wore this dress the fit of the bust would have driven me cazy, but I think it was a great choice for Rooney; the soft white lace was the perfect way to contrast her striking hair and makeup.

Tina Fey, Carolina Herrera.  Tina  has a habit of boring red carpet looks, but I think she looked lovely!  Plus, her hair and makeup was stunning.

What do you think? Did I miss any of your favorites?

Pardon My French (ie. Hey Garance Doré, can we be friends?)

One of those crazy things about the internet world, is that you start to feel like you personally know complete strangers; Garance Dore is a perfect example of that connection.  I love her blog (and her boyfriend's blog), and now with her web series "Pardon My French"  I've become slightly obsessed.    What I wouldn't give to be sitting with Garance and Diane at that coffee shop....

Pink and Red Style Inspiration

With Valentines day safely behind us,  I feel like it's safe to share my one of my favorite "trends" (I'm not sure I'm OK with calling two colors together a trend,  but you get the idea): Pink and Red.  Together.   Each time I see an effortlessly bright pink and red outfit, I file it away, because I just love how cheery the colors look together.

For me, It all started with Sarah Jessica Parker in a Prabal Gurung outfit at David Letterman last fall.

Or maybe it was Emma Stone in this darling little Giambattista Valli

How darling are the layers of pink and red in this look? Even her lips and nails!(Found on

Pinterest)

Anh over at 9-to5 Chic wore a darling iteration of this "trend"  back in April.

Khatu shared a more winter appropriate iteration:

No shock, J.Crew had the Pink & Red "colorblock" combo in the Spring 2012 show:

I've been spotting this color combo in decor, too. Although it and easily skew "little girl" Red and Pink decor can be awesome when done right.  Check out this happy table from David Mikhail Architects.

The red velvet sofa in this Miles Redd room just oozes glamour.

Aztec Sequin Print Mini Skirt

I kind of fell in love with this AllSaints skirt when I saw it on a friend (she actually rented it for a birthday party from Rent the Runway)  However, $300 seemed like a bit much to blow on a sparkly little mini.  But,  I couldn't stop thinking about it....

Then, when I recently walked by the AllSaints store,  they had come out with another version ($275) which had me again considering a splurge again...

Thankfully, Zara came to the rescue, with a skirtin their early spring line that has a similar tribal/aztec vibe,  and that same peachy color I love, but less than half the price!  Check it out:

Isn't it the perfect little skirt for a night out?  I'd probably even style it similarly to the way they did,  with a silky button down blouse and some fun wedges. I think I may pop into Zara later this week to try it on....

My Look: Gingham and Stripes

This is one of my outfits from last week... Nothing fancy, but I had fun layering patterns.   People mix patterns all the time,  but I think one of the easiest ways to do it is by sticking to a simple color scheme.

I'm wearing:

Gap blue & white stripe shirt (old, a rip-off of this)

Forever 21 blue gingham button down (old, here is a similar at J.Crew)

Levi's legging jeans

Zara ballet flats

Red H&M necklace (similar to this J.Crew bauble)
