Perfectly Imperfect New Orleans Decor

I'm headed to the Big Easy this weekend for some celebrating with girlfriends and I can't wait to experience the unique Creole style of New Orleans!  I already have a picture in my head of what to expect from the decor around the city (mostly painted by this article I read last year about a home that a couple renovated after Katrina)  and I can't wait to experience it for myself.  Will I be dissapointed If I'm expecting every place to be an eclectic mix of French antiques and Americana like this home?

How great is this weathered farmhouse table for a family kitchen?

I also think this little nook is awesome.  So many cool pieces in one little corner! (All local NOLA antiques)

And,  finally I am amazed at how they made this old lady lamp somehow look chic by sitting it with a slipcovered chair and some graphic art!

New Line to Love? Victoria Victoria Beckham

I hate to say it, but I'm pretty scared of Victoria Beckham's body conscious dresses and sky high heels.  However, Posh's latest line Victoria Victoria Beckham is a whole new story.   This line is much more fun! I love the playful scalloped trims and fun prints -- perfect for a fun night out!  Or, maybe the soft cloud print for a fancy Sunday brunch?

Spring Shopping: Madewell

Spring is always the hardest season on my wallet because I LOVE color, and we are coming into that special time of year when every retailer embraces color.    J.Crew has done it in a big way this year (I can always rely on them for my favorite brights), however I was surprised that their historically more neutral little sister, Madewell,  is also bursting with color right now.   Don't these looks have you giddy and ready for BBQs and beach days?

While I'd happily wear almost any of the pieces above, (and I see a pair of yellow jeans in my future)  I have limited myself to one new piece: a pair of their colorful flats. I just can't decide, kelly green or cobalt blue?

Recipe: Better Than Sex Cake

It may not look like anything fancy,  but what it lacks in style, this cake makes up for in decadence.  I was originally introduced to "Better than Sex Cake"  in high-school and it remains one of the most crowd-pleasing recipes in my repertoire. I can't claim anything fancy about this dessert, and its full of over-processed grocery store ingredients, but every once and a while you need a treat.

YOU NEED:

1 Boxed Chocolate Cake Mix

Semisweet Chocolate Chips

1 Can Sweetened Condensed Milk

Caramel or Chocolate Ice-Cream Topping (or both)

6 Heath Candy Bars

Tub of Frozen Whipped Topping (ie Cool Whip)

THE STEPS:

1.  Bake the chocolate cake according to the directions,  adding chocolate chips to the batter before placing into the oven.

2. Chop up the Heath bars.

A few minutes after you pull the cake out of the oven (while it is still warm):

1. Poke a bunch of holes into the cake with a fork or the back of the spoon.

2. Sprinkle 1/2 of the toffee chunks onto the cake (make sure to get some in the holes)

3.  Pour the sweetened condensed milk and carmel topping on the cake; making sure to pour it into the holes.

5.  Frost the cake with the Cool Whip.

6.  Sprinkle the remaining Heath bar chunks on top of the whipped topping. (These add the crunch!)  Sometimes I drizzle a bit of chocolate or caramel sauce for added decoration.

7.  Refrigerate (It's best if it's been refrigerated for at least a couple hours)
