Real Life is for March

I wouldn't normally condone pairing blue and yellow together (#GoStanford), but since Leap Day only comes once every 4 years,  it is only fair to celebrate it properly and do something I wouldn't normally do.

Hope you're having a great day! Live every leap day like it's your last...

Pink and Red Style Inspiration

With Valentines day safely behind us,  I feel like it's safe to share my one of my favorite "trends" (I'm not sure I'm OK with calling two colors together a trend,  but you get the idea): Pink and Red.  Together.   Each time I see an effortlessly bright pink and red outfit, I file it away, because I just love how cheery the colors look together.

For me, It all started with Sarah Jessica Parker in a Prabal Gurung outfit at David Letterman last fall.

Or maybe it was Emma Stone in this darling little Giambattista Valli

How darling are the layers of pink and red in this look? Even her lips and nails!(Found on

Pinterest)

Anh over at 9-to5 Chic wore a darling iteration of this "trend"  back in April.

Khatu shared a more winter appropriate iteration:

No shock, J.Crew had the Pink & Red "colorblock" combo in the Spring 2012 show:

I've been spotting this color combo in decor, too. Although it and easily skew "little girl" Red and Pink decor can be awesome when done right.  Check out this happy table from David Mikhail Architects.

The red velvet sofa in this Miles Redd room just oozes glamour.

Perfectly Imperfect New Orleans Decor

I'm headed to the Big Easy this weekend for some celebrating with girlfriends and I can't wait to experience the unique Creole style of New Orleans!  I already have a picture in my head of what to expect from the decor around the city (mostly painted by this article I read last year about a home that a couple renovated after Katrina)  and I can't wait to experience it for myself.  Will I be dissapointed If I'm expecting every place to be an eclectic mix of French antiques and Americana like this home?

How great is this weathered farmhouse table for a family kitchen?

I also think this little nook is awesome.  So many cool pieces in one little corner! (All local NOLA antiques)

And,  finally I am amazed at how they made this old lady lamp somehow look chic by sitting it with a slipcovered chair and some graphic art!

Black and Yellow All Over (Fashion + Decor Inspiration)

The black and yellow can be a bit scary, because it's easy to feel like the combination leads to bumblebee territory.... but, these folks are doing it right...

How easy would it be to throw in a mustard dress with some of your existing black basics like these three ladies? (The dress in the first image is a darling backless mustard dress from Zara)

 Two cozy rooms:

This (glossy) yellow ceiling brightens the entire room!

Super cute Lucy Laucht sporting an easily re-creatable look. (I think the neutral colors help temper the stark black and yellow)

Jenna Lyons' amazing New York home...

This Paris fashion week shot is making me want the perfect "high-low" skirt

What do you think?  Is this a combo you're willing to give a try?
