Instant Style: The Blues

A lot of people are scared to buy saturated furniture pieces, and then end up with the same beige sofa and chair set in their living room. Don't be afraid of buying big furniture pieces in color!  As long as something is a classic shape, in a color you like, you can always make it work.
Here is my first example:  a navy blue sofa.  Look #1 is a pretty simple/classic living room with a variety of blue shades.

 The pieces:

Blue & White mixed pattern pillows ($45 on Etsy)

Grey-Blue sheer window curtains ($15 at Target)

Tufted yellow linen chair ($1,698 at Anthropologie)

Natural stump side table ($159 at West Elm)

Multi-color bird migration abstract ($130 at ImageKind)

Tonal blue stripe rug ($320 at Lulu and Georgia)

Navy performance velvet sofa ($1,099 at West Elm)

Zara Home - Finally in the US!

Have you heard that the good folks at Zarahave finally allowed the US access to their trendy home store?  I've loved visiting Zara Home stores in Europe & Mexico, and I'm stoked that they now have a web store.   The prices aren't quite  as affordable as they are abroad, but Zara Home still offers some great deals on super trendy and unique pieces.

They have a great mix of classic/hotel style bedding(my favorite) and some really fun colorful options.  How pretty is this cozy neutral bedroom from the Zara Home catalog?

I love this rustic bathroom vingette and want to get my hands on those pretty glass containers for my cotton balls etc.

Just in time for the holidays, they also have a great selection of glassware!

 Happy shopping!

Oxblood - The Color of the Season?

When the end of September rolls around, I find myself drawn towards saturated fall hues like maroon, mustard and deep greens. This reddish brown color is nothing new, but it definitely seems to be the color of the season.

1 - Open knit oxblood sweater – an easy way to wear the color of the season, this cozy sweater works great with jeans and a pair of classic riding boots. ($76, TopShop)

2 - Lauren Ralph Lauren cross-body leather bag – I love this super classic equestrian vibe of this bag.  ($228, Zappos)

3 - Snakeskin round toe pumps with gold details – perfect fall office shoes that won’t go out of style ($128, Banana Republic)

4 - Oxblood asymmetrical chiffon skirt  - Brings a bit of the summer’s flowy skirts into fall.  Perfect with a pair of booties ($76, TopShop)

5 - Oxblood Ribbed Pleated Skirt  - A bit of a ‘back to school vibe’ with the pleats, I think the oxblood and some simple ($68, TopShop)

6- Pour la Victoire oxblood leather envelope clutch – works for an iPad, or just as a super sleek evening clutch ($124, eBags)

Inspiration: Striped Rugs

I'm in the need of a new living room rug, and on the heels of my my nautical obsession I've got stripes on the brain.   Right now we have a totally neutral rug, but I'm thinking I might want to change it up with some bold stripes.

I love how the blue color in this striped rug brings the whole room to life!

Here is an example of how a graphic stripe can take a whole room from white and simple to show-stopping.

Nautical perfection (obviously I love this!)

I won't ever get over how awesome this bedroom from Domino is.  Kinda makes you want a room with 2 twin beds, right? (maybe one day when I have a guest room?)

This room is a lot more eclectic -- I love how the black and white stripe rug makes it feel a bit modern.
