Polka Dot Pants in Action

Remember when I found an affordable pair of polka dot pants? I know the look isn't for everyone, but I've always loved polka dots and at under $20, these seemed low risk.  My review: the quality isn't great (they're a really thin rayon) but they are extremely comfortable (bordering on feeling like pajama pants) so, well worth it!

(Wearing: Forever 21 polka dot trousers, thrifted black blouse, Forever 21 rhinestone necklace, Banana Republic black platform pumps)

Today,  I paired them with a simple black button-down and pumps to let the pants be the star, however--next time I pull them out--I'm thinking might step it up with a bright colored oversized sweater.

Have you been experimenting with printed pants?  Let me know, I'd love more inspiration!

Wearing Winter Shorts: Featured on NY Times Style!

Pinch me!  If you follow me on Twitter, you probably saw my excitement this morning when a friend pointed out to me that my photo was the top image on the New York Times Fashion & Style page! The feature was  street style photos on how to wear shorts for the winter.  Here is my outfit:

(Wearing:  H&M faux leather shorts, J.Crew gold sweater, H&M Scarf, Forever 21 heart tights, H&M platform booties)

I think shorts are a great option year-round.  They're comfortable and tend to be a bit more fun than pants!  Just keep a few things in mind:

  • Stick to shorts in seasonally appropriate fabrics and colors.   White linen or patterned fabric would look totally out of place in November, however dark colors in fabrics like wool and leather make total sense.
  • Wear tights!  You still have to beat the chilly wind.  Just like with a short dress or skirt, tights are the perfect base layer for winter shorts.
  • Layer up! With your legs exposed, you don't need to bare all on top, too.  Plus, more layers will keep you even warmer.

Wearing: Summer Layers

Fashion in San Francisco requires layers.  Even on the sunniest of days, you never know when you're going to turn the corner into a fog bank. At least layers can add a fun dimension to an otherwise boring outfit.

Here is a simple look I wore on a "warm" Sunday a few weeks ago.

I am wearing: Gap striped shirt, J.Crew Factory Store navy skirt, Madewell grey & white oxfords, Urban Outfitters khaki anorak, old H&M scarf (with flamingos), Fossil watch, jewelry from Old Navy, BR and H&M.

Quick Necklace Update

Remember this fun elephant necklace I picked up a few weeks ago? It was love at first sight when I saw it at an antique shop, but when I got it home I realized the length just wasn't quite right for me. So, with a quick trip to the craft store, I was able to update it to better fit into my wardrobe. Below is a visual overview of the quick change.

Believe it or not, I was even able to fit my giant brass elephant into a work ensemble this Monday morning. Here is the full look:

(Vintage necklace worn with a Gap dress, J.Crew Navy Blazer & Banana Republic Heels. Plus, a little Hawaiian tan - I hope it lasts!)
